Where to pick up your students from rehearsals (and auditions)
Every year there seems to be some confusion about when and where to pick up students from rehearsal (including the audition). As was the case last year, students should always be picked up in the parking lot between the Fellowship Hall and the EK Gym. When we are finish, Ms. Juranas or I will accompany students out into the parking lot.
Also, we understand that you might be curious or excited to see your children perform, but we ask that parents do not come into the rehearsal space unless it's necessary. Rehearsals are a space where our actors can explore their characters without the pressure of "performing" or fear of failing. While I'm sure you would be nothing but supportive of our actors, we ask that you please respect the creative process.
Finally, please remember to pick your children up on time. We will finish rehearsals by TBA, and hope to have all students packed up and picked up by TBA. If you know you're going to be late, contact your child and have them let us know.
Auditions will be taking place over the next couple of weeks, and there can be a little stress about what your child needs to bring or do in preparation. I've auditioned for plenty of shows and have cast my fair share too, and here are my top three tips:
1. Students should know what they are auditioning for. Have them get to know the show: its music, characters, and plot. You can find all of this information on the Audition Center page on this website or on mtishows.com.
2. A good attitude. I know most of your kids from when I taught at ICS, but I want to know that they are going to a bring a positive and cooperative attitude. Remind students to be polite. I know an audition can be a nerve-wracking time, but try to remind students to relax.
3. Bring energy and fun into your characters. Remind students that their primary goal should be to leave a good impression, and to stand out from the crowd. Tell your children not to be afraid to make themselves look foolish -- that's what theater's all about!
